Over 65 population increases in outer sectors of St. Louis Metro area

The fringe areas of the St. Louis region appear to be experiencing an increase in population aged 65 and over more so than the urban central core. Overall, the St. Louis metro area has seen an increase of about 20,000 of the over 65 group within the city of St. Louis and its surrounding seven counties.

East-West Gateway’s December Map of the Month shows the change in population among those aged 65 and over, between the 2000 and 2010 US Census Surveys. The areas that predominately lost citizens aged 65 and over were concentrated within the core of the region, bound by the Interstate 270 west of the Mississippi River,
